Real SEO in Poland costs roughly 1,500-6,000 zł per month (€350-1,400) for ongoing work, or a one-off 2,000-15,000 zł for a project like an audit or a migration cleanup. Where to start: fix the site's foundation first. If it's slow or Google can't crawl it, every zloty you put into SEO is wasted. Then claim your Google Business Profile and handle the on-page basics yourself before you pay anyone a monthly fee.
I build websites with SEO in the foundation, and I've cleaned up enough "cheap SEO" wreckage to tell you honestly where the money goes and where it leaks.
Three ways to pay for SEO
There are three billing models, and the wrong one for your situation is where most budgets die.
| Model | Typical monthly | In EUR | What you actually buy |
|---|---|---|---|
| Monthly retainer (abonament) | 1,500-6,000 zł | €350-1,400 | An ongoing mix of tech fixes, content, and links every month |
| One-off project | 2,000-15,000 zł | €470-3,500 | A single job: audit, migration cleanup, or a batch of optimization |
| Pay-for-results (za efekt) | 500-2,000 zł base + bonus | €120-470 base | A small base plus a fee when a keyword ranks or a lead lands |
Monthly retainer is the standard for ongoing SEO. For a local business in a quiet niche, 1,500-3,000 zł/month buys real work. In a competitive market (law, medical, e-commerce), expect 3,000-8,000 zł and up, because you're fighting sites that have been at it for years.
One-off project fits when you have content handled in-house and just need the technical side sorted: an audit (2,000-5,000 zł), a migration that won't kill your rankings, or a one-time on-page pass. You get a clear deliverable and no open-ended monthly bill.
Pay-for-results sounds perfect - you pay when it works. The catch is in the fine print. Some agencies quietly target keywords nobody searches, so they "hit page 1" and invoice the bonus. Others lock you into a 12-month contract, or move fast with grey-hat links that rank now and get you penalized later. It can work, but only with a transparent keyword list, real lead tracking, and no long lock-in.
What you're actually paying for
Strip away the jargon and SEO is four buckets. Knowing them lets you read any offer.
- Technical SEO. Crawlability, speed (Core Web Vitals), site structure, schema markup, clean indexing. A one-time cleanup runs 2,000-6,000 zł; after that it's maintenance.
- Content. The real engine. Decent articles cost 100-400 zł each; expert-level, more. One post won't move anything - you need a steady stream targeting what customers actually search.
- Links. Other sites vouching for yours. A single quality, editorially placed link costs 200-2,000 zł. Cheap "1,000 links for 200 zł" packages are spam and a liability.
- Local SEO. Google Business Profile, local citations, reviews, city landing pages. Cheaper than the rest and the fastest ROI if you serve a specific area.
Why "SEO for 500 zł/month" is a trap
At 500 zł/month nobody can run technical work, write real content, and build clean links. The economics don't add up, so one of three things is happening. You're getting auto-generated links from link farms. You're getting spun, worthless content no human will read. Or you're getting an invoice and a monthly "report" while nothing happens.
The first option is the dangerous one. Google's spam systems catch auto-generated link schemes, and a link-spam penalty can drop a site that was doing fine. Then you pay someone like me to disavow links and clean up the mess, which costs more than doing it right from the start. Cheap SEO isn't cheap. It's expensive on a delay.
Realistic timeline: 3, 6, 12 months
SEO compounds, which is exactly why it feels like nothing is happening at first.
- Months 1-3. Technical fixes and the first content go live. Little visible movement in rankings - this is groundwork, like pouring a foundation you can't see yet.
- Months 3-6. Content starts ranking for long-tail phrases, organic traffic ticks up, and an optimized Google Business Profile begins pulling local calls.
- Months 6-12. The compounding kicks in. Authority builds, competitive keywords start climbing, and leads become steady rather than random.
Anyone promising page 1 in 30 days is either chasing keywords nobody searches or using tactics that will get you penalized. Real SEO is slow first, then steep.
SEO vs Google Ads: rent vs own
The cleanest way to think about it: Google Ads is renting traffic, SEO is owning it. Turn off your ad budget and the traffic stops that same hour. SEO is slow to build, but the rankings you earn keep working while you sleep, and the cost per lead drops over time as the asset compounds.
With a limited budget, don't treat it as either/or:
- Need leads this month? Start with Ads. They turn on instantly and you can target buyers directly.
- Building for the long game? SEO wins on cost per lead once it's working, because you're not paying per click forever.
- Best combo: run Ads now for cash flow while SEO matures underneath. In 6-12 months you can dial Ads down as organic carries more of the load.
What you can do yourself before paying anyone
Before you sign any retainer, do the free work. It's 30-40% of what a cheap agency would bill you for.
- Google Business Profile. Fill it out completely - categories, photos, hours, services, area. Then ask happy customers for reviews. Free, and for a local business it's the single highest-return move.
- On-page basics. A unique title and meta description on every page, one clear H1, a logical heading order, internal links between related pages, and alt text on images.
- Content only you can write. You know your business better than any agency. Write plain answers to the real questions customers ask you on the phone.
- Kill the obvious problems. Broken links, missing pages, no HTTPS, pages that don't work on a phone.
The foundation: none of this works on a broken site
Here's the part cheap SEO sellers won't tell you, because it doesn't fit a monthly subscription: if your site is slow, not mobile-friendly, or hard for Google to crawl, SEO money is wasted before it's spent. You can't rank a site that takes four seconds to load and buries your content behind broken navigation.
That's why I put SEO in the foundation of every build - Core Web Vitals in the green, clean crawlable URLs, schema, hreflang for multi-language, and fast pages on Next.js. If your current site is holding you back, a rebuild done right often beats years of paying someone to patch it. See what's included in my website work. FAQ
How much does SEO cost per month in Poland? Real ongoing SEO runs 1,500-6,000 zł per month (€350-1,400). Local businesses in quiet niches sit at the lower end; competitive markets like law, medical, or e-commerce reach 3,000-8,000 zł and up. Anything around 500 zł/month is not real SEO.
Where should I start with SEO on a small budget? Start with the free work: fully optimize your Google Business Profile, fix on-page basics (titles, meta, headings, internal links), and write content answering real customer questions. Then make sure the site itself is fast and crawlable. Only after that does paying for links or a retainer make sense.
How long does SEO take to show results? Expect little movement in the first 3 months, early gains between months 3 and 6, and steady compounding leads from month 6 to 12. SEO is slow at first because it builds authority over time. Promises of page 1 in a month are a red flag.
Is SEO or Google Ads better? Ads are renting traffic - instant, but it stops the moment you stop paying. SEO is owning it - slow to build, but it compounds and lowers your cost per lead over time. With a small budget, run Ads for immediate leads while SEO matures underneath, then shift the balance as rankings grow.
Why is cheap SEO for 500 zł a month a bad idea? Because at that price nobody can do technical work, write content, and build clean links. You get auto-generated link spam, worthless spun content, or nothing at all. Link spam can trigger a Google penalty, and cleaning that up costs far more than doing SEO properly from the start.
Can I do SEO myself? Yes, the foundation of it. Google Business Profile, on-page basics, and honest content are all things a business owner can handle without an agency. What usually needs a specialist is technical SEO, a fast crawlable build, and clean link acquisition - the parts where mistakes are expensive.
